I am still confirming the date. All deadlines will be extended by 24 hours. ** Date confirmed, Deadline Extended ** Regards, -- Damien Nainwak Association General Assembly News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1807 http://www.online-go.com 2008-11-18 The 2008 General Assembly of the Nainwak Association that is hosting OGS will occurs thursday night at 9pm French Time (that is 8pm UTC) on the IRC channel #assocnw on the netrusk network - irc.netrusk.net. All players of OGS are welcome to attend it but will have no vote right. I will represent OGS in the assembly. Important note: the assembly will be in FRENCH. The current planning for the assembly is : - Moral report - Financial report - Vote of the reports - Miscellaneous questions The replacement of server hardware that causes the several downtimes we have encountered will be approved also. Finally, I will ask for some hardware change for OGS development resources that will most probably be accepted. Downtime for maintenance News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1795 http://www.online-go.com 2008-10-29 Hello everybody, Tonight, a server update will occurs that should stop all connection to the server. It will probably last between 3 and 4 hours. All deadline will be extended by 24 hours. Before the downtime, a big backup will be done and the server might slow down a lot during that period. I hope that update will fix the several database downtime that have occurs recently. Regards, -- Damien Yet another downtime News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1768 http://www.online-go.com 2008-10-04 Today, at around 4am UTC, the DB server crashed along with the user table. It took some time to got it up again. Fortunately, it seems nothing was lost (actually the table of users encountered severe problems, but the repair seemed to have worked correctly). The database is now up against, a deadline extension of 24h was performed (thanks to the users table crash, no game timed out due to this downtime and I was able to react). Sorry for the inconvenience, I want to have feedback from the hoster but I'm currently thinking of a replacement plan for hosting OGS. Downtime handling - Looking for ideas News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1764 http://www.online-go.com 2008-10-01 Hello all, We have faced an annoying problem on Monday with a pretty long downtime. The solutions to the downtimes are not trivial. However, I have decided, given the feedbacks on the "Downtime for maintenance" thread, to implement an automatic deadline extension for downtime. I want to have opinion of people here, especially CS specialist. Three questions arise from this : (1) How to detect downtime and act before the deadline system ? (2) How long a downtime is considered a handicap ? (3) What is the correct deadline compensation for the downtime ? (3) Let's start from the one that reach the more consensual opinion. Given the previous thread, considering that a downtime might prevent people from logging during one day depending on the time of the downtime, the correct extension should be 24hours. (2) Some people thinks that even half an hour is a handicap. I consider myself a handicap when the downtime is longer than 6 hours. However, I think the better choice might be one hour depending on the detection technique used. The question in the poll is for (2). (1) This is the tricky part. The access statistics to OGS give a pretty constant access at all time of the day. OGS has reach a point where there's at least 1000 page hits per hours. So detecting an hour downtime should be feasible by adding a time counter in the database (*). Less seems to be a bit tricky and false-positive are bounds to happened. Half an hour still seems possible. (*) Adding a time counter in the DB is easy. At each connexion, the time counter is set to current time (**). When this time counter is over the decided time, the deadline are extended by 24hours for each day of the downtime (with 1 hour downtime limit, let's say the downtime is 26h30, then the deadline extension is 2 days. The downtime is 30min, no extension. The downtime is 24h30, the extension is 1 day...). (**) This is the tricky part : We can't use internal automatic script querying because it will disable downtimes from link connexion We can't use external automatic script querying because of false-positive when the external system is down The only solution is to do the same as for game time out checks : query when a user access the website. The question is then where to put the update : I propose to do that during the time out checks. I.e. updating the time counter will be done right after each time-out check. Well, if you find a drawback of this solution please comment. Downtime for maintenance News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1762 http://www.online-go.com 2008-09-30 There was some downtime yesterday evening at 21h45 UTC (22h45 CEST). During this downtime you might have observed difficulties to access OGS. Sorry for the inconvenience. Bots' holiday News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1717 http://www.online-go.com 2008-08-02 The three bots that play on OGS, AyaGo AyaGo6 and GnuGo, will be going on holiday tomorrow, Sunday August 3rd, for six days. This is because I will be away from home, and unable to tend them if anything goes wrong. I will leave them playing (but with their holiday flags set), and if all goes well, they will continue to move as normal. But if there is any kind of accident, they will all stop making moves, and won't start again until I can fix whatever has gone wrong, late on Friday 8th or early on Saturday 9th. Please revote! :) Timeouts unrated after three games News http://www.online-go.com/forums/thread.php?threadID=1622 http://www.online-go.com 2008-05-09 Dear OGS users, In another thread, the current rules of having games unrated after three consecutive loss by timeouts was widely criticized (http://online-go.nainwak.org/forums/thread.php?threadID=1620). rcc suggested that we should drop this limitation, what are you feeling about that?
