* Game messages can now be saved permanently. In addition, the location for the message box has been moved from above the board into the control panel. You can click on the "Messages" title there to expand/contract the messages. * Game move emails are more detailed. Whether you are observing or playing, the email will give more information such as the name of the player who moved and the name of the board (i.e. Kuksu Title, Game 1).

To enable this feature, go to your preferences (http://www.online-go.com/preferences.php) and select YES for the option "Email me when I am about to timeout in a game". Emails are sent when you have fewer than 12 hours remaining in a game.

This change does [b]not[/b] affect the Main or Nines classes of any tournament.

This change will be transparent to the vast majority of users. It is targeted at players who are entered in a handicap tournament and become provisional, either through lack of play or losses due to timeouts.

It is in the best interest of all players in the handicap tournament for players' ranks to be accurate. Accurate ranks are the result of continued and consistent play. Timeout losses are easily avoidable by going on holiday: http://www.online-go.com/holiday.php

These notes are only visible to you and will never be sent to your opponent. You can use it to keep information about endgame moves, strategy ideas, etc.

To save a note, make sure to click "Update notes" below the text area. In addition, clicking "submit" to make a move will save the notes.

When turned on, the number of games where it is your turn to move will appear in the site's favicon (the image next to the site name in your browser). This number - as well as the number in the top navigation table where you usually find the number of games where it is your turn to move - will update dynamically every 20 seconds, so there is no need to reload the page to check for new games.

The link to games where it is your turn has been moved to the Time column, and the old "To move" column has been dropped. In addition, the "Details" and "Status" columns have been consolidated. The move number is now a link to the board (in particular, it replaces the old [Open Board] link).

In addition, you now have the option to sort by the time remaining for you, for your opponent, or a mixture of the two (respectively "You", "Opp", and "/" in the table header). Thanks to orivej for the sorting code!

There was a bunch of server downtimes recently that are becoming more and more frequent. Those downtimes are due to failures of the air conditioning and electrical current stops. The installation in which the Nainwak servers are located is getting old (the UPSs are out, air conditioning stops sometimes, etc...). This place is free of charge (it's an french company that is hosting the servers for free) for the Nainwak Association and was a good deal while this company was putting a bit of interest in hosting non-profit organizations. However, a recent change in the management of the company made the situation more complex as the new boss doesn't want to support anymore non-profit organizations.

Therefore, the Nainwak Association is looking for new hosting solutions in order to discuss the possibilities at the general assembly in september.

If any of you have good ideas, please tell us.

I remind you that the association already owns the servers and that they are located in France.

I just draw the nines class of the Kuksu. Due to the increasing number of player I had to make it a 5 tiers tournaments to avoid groups to grow out of reason. To do so I had to pass from 3 groups in tier 2 to 2 and to do more relegations (they were based on score, everyone's who did not scored enough points (2 for tier 2, 3 for other) and all new players have been affected to the last tier as consequence). There's still a lot of players in tier 3 and next rounds will be more relegations than promotions again.

Recently OGS was used for massive spam by a specific user. Of course, this user was banned. I want to reminds everybody (and especially people not yet registered that are planning to use OGS as a place for spamming) that spamming is illegal in Europe. Furthermore, OGS is hosted in France and regarding French law, misuse of a computer system (OGS servers) for an illegal activity (spam) is a crime (5-years firm jail sentence and 300000 euros fee in addition to the sentence for spamming).

Well that said, I want to remind everybody some usage rules for OGS:
- Bugs and problems are to be reported using the ticket system available under Help and Support. You are supposed to browse open tickets before submitting a new one to see if it already under investigation.
- No bugs or problem are to be reported to me or other admin by personal message except if you are offering help to OGS (in that case you should message me) or you are handling a specific issue and the message was requested by the moderator. Starting today, I won't answer issue filed to me by message.
- General questions should go in most case in the forums in which more people can answer. You should look in the FAQ if the question is already answered before. I swear I'll implement the forum search feature when I have the opportunity. And for moderators, don't hesitate to grow the FAQ when a question seems legitimate.

Today, we have switched the rating system. There is no more a provisional stage but all players get a rating confidence (displayed on the profile page) depending on how many games they've played and the frequency of their games.

This rating confidence impact the ELO system on K Variable. The more your rating is confident the lower your K is. The more your opponent rating is confident, the higher your K is. (K' = K * opp rating confidence / your rating confidence).
