What are minitournaments for?

Minitournaments provided users with the opportunity to create their own mini round robin tournaments. The tournaments can be set up as even games or proper handicap games, and even games can be single or double round robin (proper handicap tournaments always being single).

When creating a minitournament, you set the timing system for the boards with the same options as with creating single boards. 9x9, 13x13 and 19x19 board sizes are all eligible, and the minitournament can be set up for anywhere between 3 and 9 players. Finally, you can set the minimum and maximum rating range for the minitournamet, and exclude provisional players from being able to join if you wish.

I don't understand the mini-tournament crosstables

We have designed the crosstables of the minitournaments to cram as much information as possible into a very small space. Whilst can initially be quite confusing, hopefully with time you will find all the information presented useful in some way.

The first column of the tournament crosstable contains all the players' names with a link to their profile, and their current rating in parenthesis

The next few columns correspond to the games between players of the tournament. Every tournament is a double round robin tournament, with one game as black and one game as white in each. Each table cell will eventually have two values either side of a slash "/". The number on the left of the backslash is the game where the player who's name is on that row is black, and the number on the right is the game where they play white. If the number is in parenthesis, it is the move number of the current game, if it is not in parenthesis, it will either be a "W" (a win for the player who's name is on the row), a "J" (a "jigo", or draw), or a "L" (a loss for the player who's name is on the left). In all cases this letter will be a link to the board.

The penultimate column contains information on the game status' for that player in the tournament, broken into three values. The first is the number of games the player is actively playing in the tournament currently. The second is the number of games the player has completed in the tournament. The third is the number of games still to start for that player in the tournament. The three columns added together should always equal the total number of games that the player will have played in the tournament when it is fully completed.

The final column contains the score for the player in the tournament, scored as 1 point for a win and 0.5 points for a draw (and 0 for a loss).
